Happy New Year! I am hoping 2012 will be as fun as 2011. 2011 was full of turmoil but Boy Deere has grown in leaps and bounds. I am always amazed by him. He makes me laugh, smile and pull my hair out daily. These toddler years are going to be a ball.
Farm wise 2011 will be remembered as the dry year. I felt like that was the only news around here. The hope for rain was always a topic. Then that led into how are you feeding your cows, how is your grass, your ponds, etc. I am ready to drop this topic even though we are still drier than normal.
2011 is also the year of the chicken for us. We obtained 25 Buff Orpington girls that we adore. Two of my girls have recently started laying so hopefully 2012 will be the year of the egg. So what did come first the chicken or the egg?
Looking back over our photos for the year Boy Deere is in a lot more of the farm photos. He rode with us on the tractor and went wild strawberry picking. I have adorable photos of him watering cows and feeding chickens. He went everywhere on the farm with us including one horrible day working calves. This was Boy Deere’s to be our little helper. I do pray this continues into 2012 and beyond.
My goals and hopes for 2012 are to work harder and happier mostly. I want to help my dad in his wonderful garden, bale more hay, and teach Boy Deere to appreciate all we have on our farm and ranch. I would love for this to be the year I can abandon my 8-5 job to focus on my Boy Deere and the farm. It isn’t probable but I can dream. I am working on my domestic arts also. I am baking my own bread which I will continue into 2012. I have plans to pick up some more canning skills this summer. I will of course be working towards one of my large goals of obtaining another farm and adding some dairy livestock. Sell your land people. Sell it I want it. There is only one formal resolution I have made though. This resolution is to keep this blog updated and expand it.
